KARACHI, July 25: City Nazim Syed Mustafa Kamal has said that I.I. Chundrigar will be initially opened for traffic to facilitate the public on August 14, while its repair and renovation work will be completed by the end of September.
“We have decided to complete this project in six months. Hopefully it will be inaugurated by the end of September,” he said while talking to media-men during his visit to I.I. Chundrigar Road on Tuesday night.
The city nazim directed the Taamir-i-Karachi Programme project director to ensure drainage facility of storm water in the streets along I.I. Chundrigar Road and said construction work of the road should be accelerated so that one of its tracks could be opened soon for traffic.
He claimed that a part of the road -- from Tower to Habib Bank Plaza -- has been completed and opened for traffic in a record time of one-and-a-half months. Mr Kamal said that the estimated cost of the roadworks was between Rs260 million and Rs270m, of which banks have provided about Rs220m.
Answering a question, the nazim said the new CNG buses had started reaching the city and the citizens would see them on the roads this week. —PPI
