ISLAMABAD, July 23: The government has decided to acquire latest equipment for security forces to curb suicide bombings, says Interior Ministry spokesman Brig Javed Iqbal Cheema.

He told this correspondent on Monday that the government was acquiring sophisticated explosives detectors, which the security forces lacked.

Presently, security forces relied only on metal detectors, easily bypassed by suicide bombers.

The ministry’s spokesman said such sophisticated detectors were only being used by security personnel deployed at the Karachi Port and the Coast Guards.

He hoped that after acquiring latest equipment, the country’s security forces would be able to bring suicide attacks under control.

He said the government expected to import explosive detectors, scanners and other equipment from various countries, including the United States.
