LAHORE, July 23: The Lawyers’ community observed Monday as a thanksgiving day as announced by the action committee. Nawafil and special prayers were offered by members of the Supreme Court Bar Association, the Lahore High Court Bar Association and the Lahore District Bar Association.

Pledges were renewed for continuing the struggle till ensuring rule of law and constitution in the country.

PBC: The Punjab Bar Council is not satisfied with the making of the attorney-general and the federal law secretary as scapegoat in the presidential reference issue.

In a press statement on Monday, office-bearers and members of the council demanded that the president and the prime minister should resign from their respective offices as they were the real movers of the reference against the chief justice of Pakistan (CJP).

They said they hoped that the CJP would also ponder on the important matters like re-election of Gen Musharraf from the present assemblies.

They said that these matters were marring the independence of parliament, judiciary, executive and media.
