Waris Shah’s Urs begins today

SHEIKHUPURA, July 22: The annual 209th Urs of famous Punjabi poet Syed Pir Waris Shah will commence in Jandiala Sher Khan from Monday (today).

The Urs will conclude on July 25. The followers of Waris Shah from home and abroad will participate in the three-day ceremonies.

District Nazim Sahibzada Mian Jalil Ahmed Sharaqpuri will perform the `ghusal’ ceremony on Monday while a floral wreath will be laid by Punjab Minister Shaukat Ali Bhatti on Tuesday (tomorrow).

The famous `heer’ reciting event, cultural shows, `kabaddi’ matches, wrestling and horse races will be held.

Tight security measures have been taken to avert any untoward incident. — Correspondent
