LAHORE, July 21: Pakistan's Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi pairing up with Rohan Bopanna, India’s leading player, entered the final of the ATP Challenger Hester Cup doubles in Manchester on Friday.
In the final, the Asian pair take on Dutch/Swedish pair of Huta Galung and Ryderstedt.
Due to rain on Friday, the matches could not continue at the outdoor grass courts of The Northern Club Manchester.
The organizers then decided to defer the singles matches to the next day but moved the doubles’ event to the indoor courts. In the singles, Aisam has to meet his double's partner Bopanna in the quarter-final.
On their way to the doubles’ final Aisam and Bopanna defeated the Australian pair of Andrew Coelho and Adam Feeney in semi-final 6-4, 7-5.
The Australians had earlier caused a major upset by defeating the top seed pair of Lars Burgsmuller and Harel Levy.
In the quarter-final, Aisam and Bopanna had a close fight against the German pair of Simon Stadler and Dominik Meffer, before winning 6-3,7-6.
Their first round match against British pair of Richard Bloomfield and Ken Skupski ended with Aisam and partner winning of 3-6, 7-6(3), 10-6.
