ISLAMABAD, March 8: Islam did not stop people from acquiring modern education rather stressed on the Muslims to make efforts to attain such knowledge, the chairman of the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC), Engineer Pervaiz Butt, said here on Friday.

He was speaking at the first national workshop on “Trends in Information Technology”, organized by the Department of Computer Science, International Islamic University (IIU).

He stressed on IT institutions to teach the students courses of international standard, and not simply charge huge fees.

Talking about unemployment in the country, and the high- paying jobs for IT experts in Europe and America, he said: “Alongwith computer sciences, we should also study management sciences. We should produce softwares and hardwares indigenously according to the needs of our society.”

He advised that only those having natural inclination towards IT should join this field. If they do so for the sole purpose of earning, they would suffer, he added.

As many as 22 research papers from all over the country were presented in the competition to get it published in Pakistan Journal of Technology. Only nine were selected for publication about which Mr Butt assured that they were of national if not of international level.
