MIRPURKHAS, July 18: The district council on Wednesday called upon the government to redesign the Left Bank Outfall Drain (LBOD) project and restart all the tube-wells of the drain, which had been out of order for a long time.

The council’s meting presided over by Convenor Dr Zafar Ahmed Kamali passed a resolution seeking shifting of the LBOD offices to Mirpurkhas from Badin.

The meeting demanded that the cotton and ginning factories, which were operating in residential areas should be relocated and urged the federal as well as provincial governments to ensure relief and rehabilitation work in flood-hit areas.

The meeting expressed dissatisfaction over quality of work on water supply schemes in Jhuddo and approved unanimously the district’s education for all plan.

The XEN of LBOD, Zulfikar Ali Nizamani, told the meeting that 95 per cent work on the desilting of main drain and 75 per cent desilting of spinal drain had been completed, breaches had been plugged and weak embankments had been strengthened. He, however, failed to provide figures of total expenditure on desilting and related works.

SECURITY ALERT: DIG police Fayaz Ahmed Leghari said on Wednesday that security had been beefed up in Mirpurkhas, Umerkot, Tharparkar and Sanghar districts following suicide attack in Islamabad.

He said that the police was being reorganised under directives of PPO Sindh.
