Cargo handling

KARACHI, July 18: The Karachi Port Trust handled 16,427,987 tons of dry cargo and 9,145,125 tons of liquid cargo during 2006-07, says a press release. The port also handled exports of 9,176,703 tons of dry cargo and 1,521,219 tons of liquid bulk cargo during the period under review. The port again touched the million mark in container handling when it achieved the figure of 1,090,381 Teus, including 559,854 tons of imports and 530,527 Teus of exports.

A total of 1,870 ships called at the port during the current ending year with container vessels having a share of 51 per cent.

The number of bulk cargo and general cargo vessels and oil tankers received by the port was 271, 291 and 358, respectively.
