GUJRANWALA, July 16: The lives of 1,600 students of the Government Girls’ High School, Rahwali, are at risk as the school’s administration has declared the school building dangerous, Dawn has learnt.

The administration informed the Education Department about the run-down building but the department has yet to take any action.

The school has eight classrooms at two-and-a-half kanals. There are 1,600 students are enrolled in the school and classrooms are not enough for such a large number of students and teachers and clerical staff. Moreover, the school building has developed several cracks and whenever it rains, the school’s compound turns into a pond.

There is no staff room and teachers use school corridor as staffroom. The school has one hand pump to meet students’ drinking water needs.

Facilities like science room and playground are dream for students.

Even though several parliamentarians and elites of the area have visited the school promising funds for the school but no promise has been fulfilled. Students and teachers demanded that the Gujranwala City District Government demolish the run-down building. Parents and elites of the area suggested the school be put on the list of run-down buildings and be reconstructed during the summer vacation.
