OTTAWA, July 14: King Abdullah of Jordan on Friday welcomed Canada’s role in helping resolve the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, saying this ‘core issue’ posed a threat to the Middle East.

Talking to newsmen after talks with Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper, he said he had a ‘very useful and productive’ meeting with his host.

King Abdullah, who was on a two-day official visit to Ottawa, disclosed that he held detailed discussions with Mr Harper on Palestine issue and said: “Canada and Jordan share the belief the only way to resolve this conflict is through negotiations that lead to a two-state solution.”

Prime Minister Harper said: “We share a common commitment to promote peace in the Middle East. “Our meeting reaffirmed the strong partnership that exists between Canada and Jordan, and served as a clear reminder of the king’s steadfast leadership, both in his own country and in the Middle East more broadly.”
