LAHORE, March 7: The tri-nation one-day series, also involving Australia and New Zealand, will be played in Lahore and Karachi between Aug 25 and Sept 7, a top Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) official said Thursday.

He said the Australian Cricket Board (ACB) has almost given thumbs up to play in the series being organized as part of Pakistan Test cricket’s golden jubilee celebrations.

New Zealand Cricket (NZC) has already given their clearance to participate in the high-class event that will see in action the former world champions, the reigning world champions and defending champions of the ICC Champions Trophy scheduled between Sept 12 and Sept 30, most likely in Sri Lanka.

“Although the ACB have not confirmed in writing, the verbal discussions are very productive. It’s on the basis of that deliberations that we have chalked out the itinerary and talked to the sponsors and broadcasters (TWI),” the official said.

The PCB official said the triangular series will be played on double league format. He said the first round action will take place in Karachi before the teams come down to Lahore to complete the second round and followed up by the Sept 7 final.

AUSTRALIA”S TEST TOUR: The Australians have been slated to play their three Tests at Multan, Faisalabad and Karachi. The programme will be officially released once the ACB agrees to the three venues.

However, it has been decided in principle that the tour will have no three-day or four-day games because of limited time. “The ACB wants to play just three Tests. So we have no problems.”
