PESHAWAR, July 12: The government has placed a ban on post-examination vacation of teachers and students in the province, it is learnt. A circular issued by the secretary, NWFP higher education department, to educational institutions recently has taken exception to the long vacations enjoyed by teachers and students after examinations.

The secretary asked them to be present in institutions after examinations were over.

Effective from August 1, the circular asked the directorate of colleges to run academic, administrative and financial affairs during the vacation.

The NWFP secretary schools has been directed to call monthly and quarterly reports regarding the performance of educational institutions from the assistant director of colleges to be forwarded to the government.

Principals of schools and colleges have been told to carry out inspections of libraries, canteens, laboratories, classroom and playground and inform the high-up of any problems being faced by the officials concerned.

The principals will also be required to send reports to the government about teachers, who had completed their courses, so that they could be posted where their services are required.

The circular also asked the principals to ensure that the staff got their salary by third day of every month.

It asked the authorities concerned to maintain record of teachers and students.

The institutions have also been asked to organise annual day functions and give prizes to students getting good marks.
