QUETTA, July 11: Jhal Magsi remains cut off from other parts of Balochistan two weeks after floods devastated the area. At the same time, rains continued to wreak havoc in Jaffarabad district.

According to reports reaching here, floodwaters were now receding from Jhal Magsi and moving towards the Gandakha area, inundating several villages in Jaffarabad district.

Officials said that the situation had improved in many areas, but many villages were flooded after Nari and Mula rivers overflowed.

“We are trying to restore the road link but our efforts are hampered by flood and we are unable to send relief goods, including food,” a senior official of the provincial relief commissionerate said.

Meanwhile, provincial Chief Secretary K.B. Rind visited flood-hit areas in Nushki and Kharan on Wednesday. He said the government was trying to provide relief to victims. He said that soon a rehabilitation programme would be started in the areas and the federal government had assured to provide help.

Mr Rind said the government had started rescuing people soon after the flood hit the area, adding that army’s helicopters and FC troops had rescued over 6,000 people from different areas.

The chief secretary said that the provincial government had sent relief items by 110 trucks, three ships and 18 train bogeys, while C-130 planes were bringing in more relief goods.
