TOBA TEK SINGH, July 11: Religious parties took out protest rallies in different districts of Punjab on Wednesday against an operation at Lal Masjid in Islamabad. In Toba Tek Singh, a rally was taken out, which was addressed by ulema and Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA) leaders. They said the action was done at the directions of the US.
SAHIWAL: Religious parties condemned the killings of Rashid Ghazi and others at the Lal Masjid operation. Maulana Abdul Razaq Mujahid, Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) secretary general, Qari Muhammad Tahir Rashidi, MMA general secretary, Qari Abubakr, Jamaat Ahl-i-Sunnat ulema president, Maulana Munawar Ali Khan, Jamaat-i-Islami amir, Mufti Muhammad Usman, provincial JUI-F information secretary, condemned the operation. They held the rulers responsible for the deaths of students. They demanded a probe into the matter by a Supreme Court judge. They announced a protest demonstration on Thursday (today).
VEHARI: Shabab-i-Milli staged a protest demonstration against the Lal Masjid operation. Ali Waqas and others led the rally which culminated outside the press club. The participants chanted slogans against the government. They criticised the government for adopting pro-US foreign policy. They said the people would avenge the killings.
FAISALABAD: The district bar association (DBA) and Samandri tehsil bar stayed away from court proceedings to mourn the killing of “innocent” people in the operation of Lal Masjid. DBA members did not take part in courts proceedings and stayed at their offices.
Lawyers did not organise any protest or procession to express their viewpoint about the incident. DBA president Tanvir Randhawa said the lawyers’ action was not against the government as it had been trying to resolve the issue peacefully.
