ISLAMABAD, July 11: The dead bodies collected from the Lal Masjid complex are being taken to the police academy Soan for DNA tests, finger prints and other related investigations, Dawn has learnt.

The data collected would be sent to Nadra for identification.

Abdul Rashid Ghazi’s body was found in the basement of the mosque and airlifted to his native town on Wednesday.

While the bodies of students and militants lying in the Lal Masjid complex were shifted to the police academy building in Soan, a source said.

He said ice blocks in a large quantity were arranged for maintaining the temperature inside the building.

The source said DNA tests and related investigations were being carried out by the security personnel to identify the dead people.

An inspector of the capital territory police assisted by one dozen low-ranking police officials has been deployed at the academy.

Meanwhile, two huge size cold storages situated in the Industrial Area of Islamabad have been hired by the ICT administration apparently to keep the bodies of people whose number is not known yet.

The Islamabad police have also started contacting the relatives of those killed and injured in the operation.

The police have been contacting the relevant police stations of the victims to inform their families on their permanent addresses.

Meanwhile, a heavy truck emitting stinking smell was seen going towards Rawat on Wednesday night while some digging work with heavy machines, believed to be for mass burial, was also under progress in the same area, sources said.
