QUETTA, July 10: The flood situation in Jhal Magsi and Jaffarabad districts worsened after heavy rains in the catchment areas of Mula and Nari rivers inundated over 100 villages, causing food shortages in these areas.

Flood in Mula river affected efforts to restore road link with Jhal Magsi and it was reported that a flash flood was moving towards Tumbo tehsil of Nasirabad and some areas in Jaffarabad district.

“People are stranded in Gandawah and Jhal Magsi areas,” MPA Mir Tariq Magsi said, adding that food shortage had prompted the district nazim to introduce rationing.

Helicopters were drooping relief goods, but the supplies were insufficient for thousands of flood victims who were forced to live in the open after their houses were washed away. “We are still awaiting tents,” the district nazim said, adding that everything had been destroyed.

The situation in Bagh canal and Gandakha areas in Jaffarabad district also worsened and around 125 villages inundated after a breach in the Fatuja dyke. The administration and troops were trying to save the Gandakha grid station and telephone exchange in the face of advancing flood.
