KARACHI, July 7: A security guard shot dead a nurse over a petty dispute at a private hospital in Malir on Saturday. Police have arrested the alleged murderer, Mohammad Yasin, and seized the murder weapon.

The victim was identified as 35-year-old Gul Naz, married to Shahid, and worked at a private hospital near Kalaboard in Malir where Yasin worked as a security guard.

The suspect told investigators that Ms Naz had borrowed money from him on numerous occasions and the sum had aggregated to over Rs100,000. He had been demanding its return for some days but the nurse kept delaying payment. Finally, he said, he had become enraged and had shot her.

However, investigators remain suspicious about the stated motive. They argue that Yasin’s monthly salary would have ranged between Rs3,000 and Rs6,000, in which case it would be extremely difficult for him to save such a sum at all. Inquiries were continuing, they said, adding that it would take time to extract the truth out of the suspected killer.

A police sub-inspector was shot dead in an encounter with drug peddlers in Site on Saturday.

The 38-year-old victim hailed from Rahimyar Khan and leaves behind three sons and three daughters.

Body found

The body of an unidentified man in his twenties was found at an isolated spot on the Malir riverbed on Saturday evening. It bore stab wounds understood to be the cause of death.

Police believe that the victim was kidnapped and then killed by an unknown party. The body has been shifted to a hospital for autopsy and police have not yet found any clues to the killers’ identity.
