ISLAMABAD, Oct 6: The National Commission on the Status of Women (NCSW) at a meeting decided to prepare its “Position Paper” on women’s political participation.

The commisssion reviewed the NRB’s Women Political Participation Report and Election Commission’s report in this regard.

The commission urged all the stakeholders to make concerted efforts for ensuring participation of women in the future national and provincial assemblies elections.

The two day meeting was presided over by Dr Faqir Hussain, acting NCSW chairperson and was attended by majority of the members.

The commission decided that it would ask the Federal and provincial governments to consult NCSW in all policy formulations. The government will be asked to send its policy drafts to the commission for its review and recommendations. The commission reviewed the draft National Policy on Women and finalized its recommendations. They will now be sent to the women development ministry for incorporation in the final draft.

Reviewing the structural mechanism of the commission, it was decided that efforts will be made to finalize rules of business in about two months time. Commission requested law division to help them in this regard.

On the second day’s deliberations, Ms Rukhsana Saleem, team leader for the ADB funded project on 5 per cent employment quota for women, briefed the commission on the progress of the project.
