KARACHI, July 4: The federal and provincial governments have pledged to provide Rs20 million annually to the newly launched Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan Institute of Oral Health Sciences for its recurring expenditures.

The institute, established in a renovated building by the Dow University of Health Sciences on the premises of the Sindh Medical College, estimates its recurring expenditures around Rs40 million a year.

According to DUHS Vice-Chancellor Prof Masood Hameed Khan, Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz and Sindh Chief Minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim while speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the institute recently held at the Governor’s House had pledged to give separate grants of Rs10 million to the institute on account of running expenditures.

Prof Khan said that the institute had already introduced a four-year BDS programme and a two-year dental technology course. Besides the institute’s OPD received 60 to 70 patients daily. He said the university was going to launch the institute of health management which would offer MBA, BBA, diploma and certificate programmes.
