KOHAT, March 6: The Pakistan Muslim League-Q, Awami National Party and Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-F will field joint candidates in the forthcoming elections at the provincial level.

Syed Iftikhar Hussain Gilani, talking to Dawn on Tuesday night, said efforts were under way to unite all factions of the Muslim League in the best interest of the country.

He remarked that all the factions of Muslim League, like in the past, were pro-establishment and their leaders had been appreciating President Gen Pervez Musharraf’s policies in the sphere of foreign affairs, economy and politics.

Gilani said during his meeting with the president, he had apprised him about the confusion prevailing among the political parties regarding the condition of graduation for parliamentarians, which needed to be resolved immediately so that they could launch their campaigns and select candidates before elections.

Referring to his meeting with the president, he said the government would positively announce the election rules by the end of the month.

Earlier, addressing a big public meeting at Khattak colony here on Tuesday, the PML-Q leader, accompanied by leaders of all the factions of Muslim League, disclosed the details of his meeting with the president, and announced that he would contest the next elections from the joint platform of the PML-Q, ANP and JUI-F.

He asked the party workers to start preparations for the elections of three provincial assembly seats of Kohat.

Praising the policies of the government, he urged all the people to support it irrespective of their affiliations and interests.
