KARACHI, July 2: Outsider three-year-old chestnut colt The Ghazan Prince sprinted to glory by lowering the colours of favourite King Of Mehran in a late burst in the Gymkhana meeting at the Karachi Racecourse on Monday.

Taking his last two runs into consideration, The Ghazan Prince was not rated to acclaim honours. However, he was heavily backed by the connection and won as he pleased.

Running on the heels of King Of Mehran and be Jamalo in the five furlongs last race of the programme, he overtook them one by one just five yards before the finishing post to post a half-length victory and interrupt winning run of King Of Mehran. Kat Mandu finished three lengths away to secure third place while Be Jamalo was pushed to fourth, further three lengths behind.

Saddled by Karim Bachoo, he was ridden home by M. Manzoor and enabled owner Irfan Mehdi to complete a back-to-back double.

In an earlier race, rider Ghulam Shabbir II stormed favourite bay mare Voo Doo Doll to four lengths victory over Jack In The Box. Sharp Cat had to be content with third place while Jawan Bakht completed the frame.

Six-year-old bay mare Silent Love, with rider Nadeem Akhtar aboard, pulled off the first upset of the day when she edged past Tun Baba Tun by two-and-a-half lengths to land the opener. Daruwala and Tom Cruise, the two joint favourites, finished off the board.

Similarly, three-year-old chestnut colt Sing Sing beat favourite five-year-old bay Powerful Gambler by two lengths to claim his maiden victory.
