QUETTA, July 2: Elders of the Khetran tribe have accused a former provincial minister and leader of the ruling PML Sardar Abdur Rehman of running a private jail in the Barkhan district.

Addressing a joint press conference at the press club here on Monday, Wadera Ghulam Sarwar Eshani, nazim of the Eshani union council, Wadera Gulzar Khan Khetran, former chairman of the Barkhan district council, and Abdul Karim Khetran, former tehsil nazim, also accused the former minister of embezzling money from the Rs100 million Prime Minister’s development fund.

They said they had filed a complaint to the provincial home secretary, but no action had so far been taken.

They said that Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry had taken a suo motu action against the chieftain of the Khetran tribe after which the people lived peacefully for some time.

Tribal elders urged the government to demolish the private jail, besides calling for direct implementation of all development projects in the Barkhan area by the departments concerned.
