SWABI, July 1: PML general secretary Mushahid Hussain Syed has said that the western world is more extremist than the Muslim world.

Speaking at the oath-taking ceremony of the Gandhara Union of Journalists here on Sunday, he said that the main target of the Western world was the Muslims.

Leaders of various political parties, union council nazims and members of welfare bodies attended the ceremony.

“There is a rivalry between the West and the East and the former adopts various tactics and strategies to protect its global objectives at the cost of the latter,” he said.

Talking about the challenges being faced by the Muslim world, he said the Muslim rulers should change their priorities to fight the “battle of ideas”.

He said: “We lacked tolerance to accommodate the opposition ideas and this was vital for strengthening democratic institutions and democracy in the country.”

He said that the government was determined to resolve the problems of journalists and added that the journalists should use their pen to eradicate evils from the society.

Mushahid Hussain invited a delegation of the Gandhara Union of Journalists to visit Islamabad in mid-July to discuss the issue of construction of the Swabi press club with the information minister.

He said the strengthening of institutions was vital for democracy and among them the press club was extremely vital.
