ISLAMABAD, June 29: The Central Board of Revenue (CBR) has exempted customs duty on import of a range of machinery and parts, particularly those related to newspaper industry.

According to a customs notification (SRO-654 of 2007) issued here on Friday, import of plant, machinery and equipment, etc., is exempt from customs duty and sales tax.

It further stated that the town and municipal authorities are allowed to import fire-fighting vehicles and equipment on total exemption from customs duty and sales tax.

Customs duty and sales tax have been exempted on import of machinery by the cutlery industry as well.

Through another customs notification (SRO-643), the government has exempted customs duty on import of all types of machinery and spares for use in newspaper establishments, whether new or already operative. — Our Reporter
