BARAWAL (Upper Dir), June 27: The proscribed Tehrik Nifaz-i-Sharia-i-Muhammadi (TNSM) has denounced suicide attacks and called them un-Islamic.

Defying a government ban, the TNSM held a public meeting here on Tuesday, which was attended by over 600 people. The TNSM said it was not a terrorist organisation, but only demanded “God’s law on God’s land.” The organisation disowned a campaign launched by a little known group, Darora Tehrik. Pamphlets saying the TNSM will carry out suicide attacks against police and agencies’ personnel had been distributed during the campaign.

Speaking at the gathering, Maulana Matiul Haq, son of TNSM chief Maulana Sufi Mohammad, and other leaders said the Darora Tehrik’s campaign was a conspiracy to malign their organisation which they said had launched a peaceful struggle for enforcing Sharia in the Malakand division. They declared that their organisation considered suicide attacks un-Islamic.
