QUETTA, June 24: Former governor of Balochistan Brigadier (retd) Abdul Rahim Durrani died of cardiac arrest here on Sunday. He was 85.

He left behind his wife, three sons and a daughter. He died just after offering Fajr prayers in a mosque near his home in the Quetta Cantonment.

His Nimaz-i-Janaza was offered at the Jamia Masjid Syedul Mursaleen. Balochistan Governor Owais Ahmad Ghani, Quetta Corps Commander Lt-Gen Hamid Rab Nawaz, General Officer Commanding Maj-Gen Mohammad Farooq and other civil and military officials were among those who attended the prayer.

Mr Durrani was born in 1922 in Quetta. He joined the army in 1944 and retired as brigadier in 1979.

He served as governor of Balochistan in 1994-95 during the caretaker government of Moin Qureshi.
