SAHIWAL, June 21: Civil Lines police registered a case on Thursday against 18 lawyers for breaking into the chamber of a Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) lawyer, beating his clerk and raising slogans against the government.

Police said Assistant Sub-Inspector Muhammad Akram came to the chamber of MQM lawyer Muhammad Amin Khizar for a pre-arrest bail. Former District Bar Association president Mehr Qutubuddin Tariq, former secretary Rao Muhammad Akram and 15 others attacked Khizar’s clerk Muhammad Iqbal and snatched his cell phone. Khizar was not present at his chamber. The lawyers raised slogans against the government. Civil Lines police on the report of Khizar registered cases under section 16 of the Maintenance of the Public Order and 382, 447, 148 and 149 of the Pakistan Penal Code with no arrest.

ROBBERIES: Six robbers looted valuables worth Rs1.5 million from the house of Union Council Nazim Chaudhry Muhammad Saeed in Chak 140/9-L. Robbers held the family hostage and collected ornaments worth Rs670,000, three guns and a rifle. They also drove away their tractor.
