LAHORE, June 20: The Civil Lines police arrested seven people outside the Lahore High Court for resorting to firing in the air.

The police also seized weapons and three cars, registering a case against the accused under 7 ATA.

Reports said Asif and Tahira of district Sargodha came to the court in connection with a love marriage case to get the girl’s statement recorded.

Civil Lines SPO Imtiaz Serwer told Dawn that on seeing the relatives of Tahira, Asif’s friends started firing in the air with Kalashnikovs and other heavy weapons.

According to witnesses, firing created a panic among the pedestrians, commuters, lawyers and police guard deployed at the LHC who ran for cover.

Security officials at the court reached the spot to control the situation. Meanwhile, Civil Lines SHO, along with some policemen, reached there and rounded up the accused identified as Hamid Hassan, Ghulam Mustafa, Imran, Zafar Iqbal, Sharafat Ali, Rafaqat and Anwer.

The SPO said a case of kidnap was registered against Asif on the complaint of Tahira’s father in Joharabad police station.
