KARACHI, June 18: The leaders of the Karachi Bar Association (KBA) will discuss a number of problems with the officials of the provincial government on Tuesday. The KBA general-secretary told Dawn that at the invitation of Sindh Chief Secretary Shakeel Durrani the lawyers would meet him at his office to discuss issues being faced by the legal fraternity.

Removal of encroachment from the City Courts’ surroundings, declaring Lewis Road one-way and a no parking zone, issuance of arms licence to the KBA members, release of a grant from the city government for KBA library, etc were some of the issues to be discussed with the chief secretary, he said.

The KBA leader also demanded establishment of a dispensary, provision of ambulance and quality medical care for litigants, lawyers and prisoners.

He also demanded provision of annual grant (in aid) from the Sindh government for the KBA and proper security measures on the courts premises.

It was learnt that lawyers would also hold meetings with the Sindh home secretary and inspector-general police (IGP) to discuss the problems of the lawyers.

Answering a question, he said parking on the road in front of the City Courts was not only a lingering issue but a source of security concern as the lawyers had received threat calls and in such a situation parking of vehicles in front of the courts was not suitable.
