PESHAWAR, March 4: A cabinet committee here on Monday discussed the construction of a commercial plaza over 59 kanal vacant land of the government at Dabgari Garden.

The committee, constituted by the provincial government to consider the best possible utilization of the vacant land, considered various options. Minister for Education and Information Imtiaz Husain Shah Gilani presided over the meeting.

The provincial government owns over 63 kanals of land at Dabgari garden area. Sixteen houses were constructed over an area of 24 kanals, while the rest of 59 kanals are lying vacant. In view of its location in the main market area, the government intends to construct a commercial plaza at the site.

Speaking on the occasion, the minister informed the committee that the government wanted to utilize the land in the best interest of the people and the government.

He said interest of the government would be ensured by maintaining complete transparency in awarding the contract for the project.

Imtiaz Gilani said that the government would not spend any money from its own resources on its construction, rather the project would be handed over to private sector through open bidding.

The meeting decided that in view of changed scenario a complete feasibility study would be carried out to look into the commercial, financial and technical aspects of the project.

The committee would send its recommendations to the provincial cabinet for approval.
