LAHORE, June 15: Punjab PPP President Shah Mahmood Qureshi says his party leaders and workers will receive CJP Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry on his visit to Faisalabad on Saturday despite large-scale arrests.
In a press statement on Friday, he said if the party workers were prevented from reaching Faisalabad, the responsibility of all consequences would rest with the government.
He said despite all restrictions the CJP would be accorded an historic welcome.
Official sources say that a total of 230 people had been arrested or detained of which 90 had been released on Friday.
The PPP leader held the government responsible for the ‘assassination’ of PPP leader Sarmad Mansoor in Kot Lakhpat jail, and said the chief minister would be held accountable for it.
Meanwhile, the PPP’s provincial executive committee is due to meet here on Saturday.
The prevailing political situation will be the major subject of discussion.
