Dollar gains

LONDON, June 14: The dollar was stronger on Thursday against most major currencies, and hit multi-year highs against the yen before mixed US data provoked some selling here, dealers said.

In late European trading, the dollar stood at 122.98 yen -- after spiking to 123.13 yen, the highest point since December 2002.

The euro edged up to $1.3309 however, from $1.3305 late in New York on Wednesday.

The single currency had dropped to $1.3264 on Wednesday, a level last seen on March 26.

The most closely-watched piece of US data on Thursday was the producer price index, which rose by 0.9pc in May owing to higher energy costs.—AFP
