LAHORE, June 12: The privilege committee of the Senate has accepted a privilege motion moved by Senator Enver Baig against the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Dr Nasim Ashraf for allegedly using derogatory remarks against the senator.

After the acceptance the Senate’s committee, headed by Tahir Mashadi, will summon the PCB chief to appear in the next 14 days to clear his position.

Enver told Dawn the committee could issue strictures to Dr Nasim in case of losing the case and on which the Patron of the Board President General Pervez Musharraf could sack him (Dr Nasim) as the PCB chairman.

The senator, in his appeal, had prayed that the PCB chairman had disgraced him at a press conference by saying that he (the Senator) is a person with a ‘sick mind’.He further added: “I, being a member of the Senate and member of the Senate Standing Committee on Sports had announced a token hunger strike to protest against the false promises made by Dr Nasim Ashraf regarding the implementation of the PCB constitution, which could not be done.

“This shows the incompetence of the board’s chairman and the PCB, and I understand he has also used foul language in the press conference about me which could not be published in the print media.

“The behaviour of the chairman PCB has breached the privilege of a member of the Parliament and member of the Standing Committee on Sports which is highly objectionable is required to be referred to the privilege committee for taking necessary action in this regard. A photocopy of the press report is attached,” the senator stated in his appeal to the committee.
