KARACHI, June 12: On the directives of President Musharraf, compensation cheques worth Rs20 million were distributed among the victims of May 12 incidents after a month on Tuesday.

Besides the provincial government assistance, President Musharraf had announced compensation of Rs0.3 million and Rs50,000 each for the deceased and the injured respectively.

On behalf of the government, DCO Javed Hanif visited the houses of affected families and distributed compensation cheques among 234 injured and the heirs of 46 deceased.

On the directives of governor, relief cheques worth Rs12.8 million were also distributed among 18 owners of the shops and the godowns, which were damaged in fire during disturbances in Gulberg Town.

The government has also decided to compensate the owners of 110 vehicles, which were set ablaze by rioters. In this connection, Rs6.9 million will be released soon.—APP
