CHAKWAL, June 11: Two persons were killed in separate incidents on Monday in the precincts of the Saddar Circle police. Kalar Kahar police said a man shot dead his brother in Miani village.

Zaheer Abbas told the police that one of his brothers, Qaisar Abbas — was involved in drug peddling and he used to ask his other brother — Sohail Abbas — to assist him in the crime. Getting agitated at his insistence, Sohail opened fire on Qaisar who died on the spot.

The police have registered a case and are hunting for the accused.

Saddar police said that a brick kiln labourer was killed after being run over by a speeding tractor (STB-5810) in Noorwal village.

Nazir Ahmed told the police that he along with his brother, Shabbir Ahmed, was going to the kiln when a tractor being driven by Sher Khan hit Shabbir, killing him on the spot.

The Saddar police arrested the driver and started investigation.

LAWYERS’ STRIKE: The lawyers on Monday observed an hour-long strike and boycotted the courts in Talagang, Choa Saiden Shah and Chakwal.

Two lawyers — Sher Afzal and Khurram Shehzad — participated in the hunger strike camp of the District Bar Chakwal, as the protest campaign entered into its fourth month.

Punjab Bar Council (PBC) member Hassan Raza Pasha, DBA President Haroon Irshad Janjua and Secretary Ghulam Jelani Minhas told the mediapersons that different committees had been formed to accord a rousing welcome to Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry on June 16.

They said the chief justice would be brought to Chakwal city from Balkassar interchange at 9am. According to them, counsels for the CJP — Ali Ahmed Kurd, Chaudhry Aitzaz Ahsan and Munir A. Malik — would address big public rallies at the judicial complex and on Bhaun Road, separately.—Correspondent
