HYDERABAD, June 10: A large number of residents of Iqbal Colony and Hill Top incline in unit-12 Latifabad blocked Auto Bhan road on Sunday in protest against non-supply of water to their area for more than a week amid sizzling summer.

They blocked the road for quite some time and suspended vehicular traffic.

The residents raised slogans against Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) and Hyderabad Development Authority (HDA) for non-provision of water supply.

They said that their families, especially minor children suffered as they could not take bath in the scorching heat while non-availability of drinking water had become a major problem.

Latifabad Taluka Nazim Sabir Kaimkhani rushed to the spot and persuaded the protesters to lift the blockade with a promise to improve water supply to their areas.

He spoke to leaders of the protesters, including Babu Bhai, Naveed and Junaid.

The protesters said that they were not getting water for the last one week. The complained that tankers supplying water to the area could not cater to their needs. They said supply through water supply lines should be improved.

The taluka nazim informed them that water supply was hit by since the area is located at tail-end of supply network. The scenario got complicated with continued load-shedding by Hesco, he added.

To cool down the protesters, he summoned the executive engineer of WASA and invited protesters' leaders to accompany them to sort out the matter.
