LAHORE, June 8: The government has failed to mislead the people by filing false affidavits of Chief of Staff of President Pervez Musharraf and directors-general of the Intelligence Bureau and the Military Intelligence.

Lahore High Court Bar Association President Muhammad Ahsan Bhoon and Secretary Sarfraz Cheema said this in a statement issued here on Friday.

They said contents of affidavits had proved that the government had been unnerved and was trying to confuse the people.

The confusion was evident from the fact that one of the officials had denied the authenticity of his signatures on the affidavit.

President Pervez Musharraf first decided to address the nation on June 7, but cancelled the programme later on.

The government, they said, had promulgated the Pemra Amendment Ordinance to prevent the electronic media from reporting the events realistically but had been forced to suspend its operation under the pressure of public opinion.

The government had forgotten that the people had understood the tactics of the rulers due to exposure by media, they said.
