Haas ruled out of Wimbledon

Published June 7, 2007

BERLIN, June 6: German No 1 Tommy Haas, ranked tenth in the world, is almost certain to miss Wimbledon later this month, a German daily newspaper reported on Wednesday. The 29-year-old had been expected to play in next week's Gerry Weber Open in Halle, Germany, the first grass tournament of the season, to prepare for Wimbledon which starts on June 25.

But a persistent problem with his right shoulder, which has needed two operations, seems to have scuppered Haas' chances of competing in both tournaments and has already forced the German to withdraw from Roland Garros and May's ATP tournament in Rome.

“He will not participate in the tournaments at Halle or Wimbledon,” his father Peter Haas told German daily newspaper Neue Westfaelische.—AFP
