ISLAMABAD, March 2: A government spokesman has expressed surprise over the decision of the APC to seek world support for the restoration of democracy in the country.

He said in a statement that the democracy at grass roots had been restored, and district governments were operational since August last.

Preparations to hold elections were in full swing, and the polls would be held as per schedule. Process of delimitation was being pursued. It was really not understandable why the All Parties Conference (APC) had chosen to seek support in this regard, the spokesman added.

About APC’s intention to move court against the constitutional amendments, the spokesman said they were welcome because such amendments were being proposed in the larger interest of the democracy and stable political set up in the country.

The spokesman termed APC’s declaration ridiculous and against the interest of the country, and said politicians should also realize the situation on regional and international fronts.
