KARACHI, March 2: The Nazims of all the tiers of the local government and the Naib Nazim of the city and district governments in Sindh will be paid honorarium, it has been learnt officially

They will also be entitled to house rent and use of official vehicles, but travelling and daily allowances will be admissible according to their grades which have been determined.

However, medical facilities would be subject to the rules and policies of the government, it was pointed out.

According to a notification, the city Nazim would be entitled to Rs25000 per month and would be treated at par with BS grade 21, while the Naib Nazim and other district Nazims have been equated with BS grade 20, they will be entitled to the honorarium of Rs20000 per month.

Although the honorarium for the Naib Nazim of the city government and the Naib Nazims of all districts government is yet to be notified, their summary has already landed in the governor’s house and their notification is on the cards.

The sources indicated that the Naib City Nazim would be paid an honorarium of Rs20000 per month, while the Naib Nazim of the district government would be entitled to Rs15000 per month.

In the notification issued the honorarium for the Taluka or Town Nazim has been fixed Rs15000 per month and will be treated in grade BS-19, while the Taluka Nazims of all the district headquarters will be treated in grade BS-18 and the Nazim of Taluka Municipal Administration in grade BS-17.

The district Nazim is entitled to official residence or 45 per cent of honorarium in the Karachi, Hyderabad and Sukkur districts, while in the cases of other districts the Nazim will be entitled to 30 per cent of their honorarium.

Regarding the use of official vehicles, the district, Taluka/town nazim will be entitled to use the official vehicle maintained by the local government, subject to the limits determined by the respective council and general policy guidelines.

The travelling and daily allowances will be admissible subject to the provision in the budget on the basis of allowances admissible to the grade officers.

For attending the meeting of the city district/ district government the allowance would be Rs300 per day but in case of Taluka/town council meeting the allowance will be Rs200 per day. Besides, members will be allowed the air fare if called to attend official meeting /training course outside the province, which will be in addition to the DA.

In the notification it was clarified that the respective council shall be the controlling authority, adjudicating the TA and DA of Nazim/Naib Nazims and other members of the council proceeding on training or to attend official meetings.

Respective Nazims shall be the controlling officer for the purpose of the TA and DA for officers.

The district Nazim will be entitled to the facility of one STD phone at his residence and two STD phones at his office. However the limit of its use would be fixed by the council. The Naib district/ Taluka/ town Nazim will be entitled to have one STD phone at his office only.
