SHEIKHUPURA, June 2: A woman, whose identity has yet to be ascertained, jumped into the Qadirabad-Baloki Link Canal on Saturday with three minor girls, what police believed, in a bid to end her and the three children’s life.

Bystander Asif saw the woman with the three children jumping into the canal and informed DSP patrolling Shoaib Kamboh, who with his staff rushed to the scene. Policemen jumped into the canal and fished out the woman and one-and-a-half-year-old girl. The woman was alive but in coma while the minor had died. The bodies of other two girls, aged four and six, could not be found.

The DSP suspected the woman had taken such an extreme step because of some family dispute or poverty.
