LAHORE, May 30: President of the Pakistan Rugby Union Fawzi Khawaja has alleged that a fake Indian rugby team was currently on Pakistan tour for a three-Test series. “Our Pakistan Rugby Union is the sole body affiliated with the International Rugby Board and we have no knowledge on whose invitation the Indians are in Pakistan,” Khawaja said.

“We have also contacted the Rugby Football Union of India President Pramod Khanna asking him to explain the status of the Indian team which is currently in Pakistan,” he added.

In reply, the Indian rugby authorities said: “This news has come as a surprise to us. It may please be noted that the Indian Rugby Football Union is the sole governing body for the game of rugby-football in India and it did not send any team to Pakistan.”

Fawzi also said an Iranian team would visit Pakistan in July to hone their skills for international competitions, adding the Iranian referees and coaches would also come to Pakistan to get training.
