KARACHI, May 30: Two suspects were shot dead and a policeman was wounded in what police claimed to be an encounter in the Defence Housing Authority on Wednesday.Police said that two policemen, Hukam Dad and Malik Manzoor, were patrolling the DHA Phase I. When they signaled a suspected car to stop, instead of stopping, the four occupants of the car opened fire at the police and sped away.

The policemen chased them and called for reinforcements. The suspects were driving AGS-787 they had snatched in the limits of the Ferozabad police station a few hours before, town police officer SP Azad Khan told Dawn.

The suspects drove on a road with dead end, where they stopped. However, they opened fire at the police, prompting them to retaliate. During the shootout two of the suspects died while a policeman, Malik Manzoor, was injured.

Police rounded up the two remaining suspects who had been identified as Ibrahim Magsi and Muhammad Ali Magsi. Four TT pistols were seized from them. The same suspects had snatched a car in the limits of the Mubina town police station earlier in the day, but abandoned it on Sharea Faisal when it developed some trouble, the SP added.
