ATTOCK, May 29: The annual primary and middle standard examinations were postponed for indefinite period in the Attock district on Tuesday in view of the situation emerging from the teachers’ boycott of invigilation duties to press for their demands.

The primary standard examinations started on May 25 and since then six papers had been conducted. As many as 28,000 candidates are taking the primary level examinations at 144 centres set up in the district.

But like other parts of the province, disturbance was being experienced at the examination centres throughout the district.

On the first day, exams did not take place at some 20 centres while at other centres the situation remained tense with reports of scuffles and minor clashes.

Sources told this reporter that around 15 per cent primary school students could not sit the examinations.

Ultimately, two exams — Geography and Urdu — were postponed on Tuesday on the directives of the Punjab education department. The candidates were sent back by the authorities to their homes.

Such as, the middle standard examinations scheduled to begin on June 2 had also been postponed for indefinite period.—Correspondent
