LAHORE, May 28: Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan could not file on Monday his petition against the Punjab home secretary’s orders that barred him from leaving the city for Karachi on May 27.

Khan’s counsel Ahmad Awais said the petition would be filed on Tuesday (today) as on Monday the LHC office did not entertain the plea due to shortage of time.

In the petition, Khan contends that he and his party is working for rule of law and constitutional supremacy in Pakistan and facing resistance from the government.

He said after the chief justice of Pakistan (CJP) was removed on March 9 and countrywide lawyers’ protests ensued. He said the lawyers’ movement had become a national movement to establish the rule of law.

Mr Kahn said on May 12, the CJP was invited to address the Sindh High Court Bar Association by its president but he along with his counsels was not allowed to leave the Karachi airport.

He said state authorities had created a law and order situation to frustrate the function in collaboration with Altaf Husain, a self-styled exiled leader of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement and round about 40 people were killed and more than 200 injured.

Mr Khan with other political parties condemned the state terrorism and announced meeting all bereaved families as well as all the injured, the petition read.

On May 27, when the petitioner arrived at the Allama Iqbal airport to get a PIA flight for Karachi, he was barred by police and Civil Aviation Authorities from boarding the plane, he alleged.

Mr Khan said the authorities delivered him an order from the Punjab home secretary whereby he was restrained from leaving Lahore for three days.

He asked the court to quash the restriction order declaring it arbitrary and violation of fundamental rights. He sought the suspension of the orders.
