KARACHI, May 27: Heralded by a performance of Sindhi folk artistes, the Koocha-i-Saqafat resumed its activities following a two-week hiatus. The cultural spectacle is organised by the Arts Council of Pakistan, Karachi, at M.R. Kiyani Road on Sundays.

This weekly cultural extravaganza could not be organised since May 12 due to the tensions and uncertainty prevailing in the city following the killing of 42 innocent citizens.

The organizers added the performance by Sindhi folk singers in a bid to minimise the tensions and spread the message of love in the shocked metropolis.

“The Sindhi folk performers, including women, are receiving huge applause from the visitors,” said Saifur Rehman Grami, chairman of the Koocha-i-Saqafat Committee of the Arts Council.

According to him mystic music has immense power to counter extremism and help love dominate over hatred.

He added that efforts were underway to have folk and mystic musicians from across the country become a regular feature at the weekly cultural event.

A good number of people from across the city turned up to the event and took interest in its various sections including the book bazaar, art and artisans’ sections etc.

Children showed keen interest in the section set up for them while poets regaled poetry enthusiasts with their verses.
