SANGHAR, May 25: Even after seeing their earlier attempts to get physical custody of former DIG Rana Salimullah Khan frustrated, the investigation police on Friday made an impatient and stubborn fifth-time bid to be able to lay hands on their disgraced colleague but the court adjourned the decision to Saturday.

Sanghar investigation police had also requested the court for shifting the former DIG from Mirpurkhas to Sanghar district jail.

They had twice applied the second additional district and sessions judge of Mirpurkhas and twice requested the civil judge and judicial magistrate of Khipro for getting physical custody of the ex-DIG but the judges threw out all their applications. It was the fifth time the police had requested the district and session judge Ms Kausar Sultana Hussain for the ex-DIG’s physical custody and DSP Legal Mohammad Aslam Gill argued that they wanted to get the physical remand because Mr Khan was not cooperating with investigators.

Mr Khan faces charges of illegal detention under an FIR filed on May 14 at Khipro police station by Amirio Bheel under sections 458, 354, 344, 220 506 PPC and R/W 155-C, 156 Police Ordinance 2007.

Mr Panhwar questioned the fierceness with which the police were demanding Mr Khan’s physical remand and expressed the fear that they would use third degree methods to extract the kind of confessional statement that pleased the Sindh government.

Our Mirpurkhas correspondent adds: Police produced the former DIG in the second additional session court. The court adjourned the hearing to June 9.

The ex-DIG’s arrival at the court was followed by two rallies for and against him, which faced off each other at the court’s gate but the police prevented a possible clash.
