Published March 2, 2002

KARACHI, March 1: The caisson of dry dock No. 2 of Karachi Shipyard and Engineering Works (KSEW) collapsed on the night between Feb 27 and 28 resulting in flooding of the dock under pressure and collision of two vessels, which were under repair.

According to KSEW press release, the vessels included VSP Sindbad and TSHD Rajhans belong to KPT.

There has been no injury or loss of life, however, the vessels and dock have been seriously damaged, the statement said.

Action to salvage the vessels and making the dock operational has been initiated on immediate basis and a board of investigation to ascertain the causes of accident and extent of damage has been ordered.—APP
