Teachers held in Mandi

MANDI BAHAUDDIN, May 24: Police arrested dozens of teachers ahead of Gujranwala regional police officer Saud Aziz’s visit here on Thursday.

The Muttahida Mahaz Asaatza arranged a demonstration on Thursday to press for the acceptance of their demands.

A heavy police contingent, led of Saddar DSP, besieged the protesters, arrested dozens of them and shifted them to various police stations.

Talking to newsmen at Saddar police station, Punjab Teachers’ Union president Bashir Warriach said police tortured teachers and Saddar DSP abused them while arresting them.

He said about 13 teachers were being kept at Saddar police station.

He vowed to continue their struggle for their just demands.

Meanwhile, district PML-N president ex MPA Dewan Mushtaq Ahmad condemned the police excesses on teachers.

Meanwhile, Saud Aziz addressed a press conference in the evening at DPO’s office and gave details of police performance.
