RAWALPINDI, May 24: Two armed robbers snatched Rs750,000 from a bank employee in the cantonment area on Thursday, police said.

The robbery victim, Kamran Shah, told the police that he was on his way home in his car after drawing the cash from a bank when two persons riding a motorcycle intercepted him on Kashmir Road and forced him to give up the bag containing the cash.

After snatching the cash the culprits sped away.

In another incident, two robbers snatched a purse containing Rs62,000 and gold ornaments from a woman in the jurisdiction of the R.A. Bazaar.

Zaheeruddin Babar told the police that he along with his wife was heading home on his bike when two motorcycle riders intercepted him and snatched the purse from his wife.

Earlier, in a similar incident, a woman was deprived of cash by two motorcycle riders in the Civil Lines area.

Abdul Hameed complained to the police that he along with his sister was going on his bike when two robbers intercepted him near Katchri Chowk and snatched his sister’s purse containing Rs5,000 and some Canadian dollars.

Some burglars broke into the shop of Faisal Malik in the City police area and escaped with Rs50,000 in cash, calling cards and other valuables.

Meanwhile, in Islamabad robbers and auto thieves struck at six different places on Thursday and looted cash at gunpoint and also took away three cars in separate incidents, police said.

Rafiq Shahzad told the Secretariat police that he was passing through a deserted place near Aiwan-i-Sadr Colony when three robbers blocked his way and snatched cash from him at gunpoint and later disappeared in the dark after firing shots in the air.

Two robbers entered into the house of Mr Hashim in sector G- 8/2 and snatched Rs10,000 and a cellphone at gunpoint.

Two women swindlers entered a house in Sector G-10/2 on Thursday and made off with cash and gold jewellery on the pretext of doubling the amount and ornaments.

Three cars were taken away from different parts of the city on Thursday.

A car (ICT-154) was stolen from Blue Area, another car (RIX-563) was taken away by from the jurisdiction of Secretariat police, while a car was lifted from F-8 Markaz.
